OVERVIEW

ThruFlow Legacy XP Dock Decking Panels

ThruFlow Legacy XP dock decking panels provide one of the most durable, environmentally friendly, and maintenance-free dock decking solutions available for docks, piers, marinas, and waterfront walkways.

Manufactured using advanced bonding technology and fiberglass reinforced polypropylene (FRPP), Legacy XP panels deliver exceptional strength while remaining lightweight and comfortable underfoot.

The open-grid architecture allows water, wind, and debris to pass through the decking surface while allowing 43% of sunlight to penetrate below the dock. This reduces environmental impact on aquatic vegetation and helps minimize uplift caused by waves, storm surge, and strong winds.

ThruFlow panels are widely used as replacement dock decking panels for residential docks, marina walkways, and waterfront boardwalks—making them a popular plastic dock decking replacement for traditional wood dock boards.

Legacy XP panels are also compatible with original ThruFlow Legacy panels, making them ideal for dock repairs, dock resurfacing projects, and new dock construction.

AVAILABLE PURCHASE OPTIONS

ThruFlow Legacy XP panels are available as single panels or discounted bundle packs depending on the size of your project.

  • Single Panels – Ideal for repairs or small dock sections
  • 10 Panel Bundles – Great for partial dock resurfacing
  • 70 Panel Bundles – Popular quantity for full dock decking projects
  • 140 Panel Bundles – Ideal for large docks and marina installations

Bundle packs often provide better pricing and freight efficiency for larger dock projects.

Coverage Guide: A standard 48" x 12" panel covers approximately 4 sq ft. A 70-panel bundle covers approximately 280 sq ft of dock surface (before waste/cuts).

PANEL DESIGN

ThruFlow Dock Decking Panels

Legacy XP panels feature an interlocking tab design that allows each panel to connect seamlessly to the next, creating a clean and uniform dock surface.

The XP design includes elongated screw holes which provide greater flexibility during installation and make it easier to align panels with dock framing members. This is especially helpful when installing on existing docks where framing may have shifted or warped over time.

The open-grid decking surface allows water and wind to pass through the structure, helping docks better withstand extreme weather conditions.

  • 36" x 12" Panel (1' x 3')
  • 48" x 12" Panel (1' x 4')

RECOMMENDED FASTENERS

ThruFlow Dock Decking Screws

ThruFlow recommends a high-quality #10 or #12 stainless steel pan-head screw approximately 2.5" long.

Fasteners should pass through the panel and secure into the dock framing structure. Screws should not be fully tightened to allow for natural expansion and contraction.

The standard 48" panel uses 8 fasteners per panel on 16" centers.

Compatible stainless steel dock decking screws are available separately.

COMMON APPLICATIONS

  • Boat docks
  • Marina walkways
  • Residential waterfront docks
  • Dock resurfacing projects
  • Commercial marina decking
  • Boardwalks and waterfront pathways

DOCK DECKING COVERAGE CALCULATOR

Use the quick guide below to estimate how many ThruFlow Legacy XP panels you’ll need for your dock, pier, or walkway. Simply calculate your total dock surface area (Length × Width) and match it to the panel size you plan to use.

Step 1: Measure your dock surface area in feet (Length × Width = Total Square Feet)

Step 2: Divide by the coverage per panel (below) to estimate panel quantity

Step 3: Add 5–10% extra panels for waste, cuts, and end finishing

Coverage Per Panel

  • 36" x 12" panel (1' x 3'): Covers 3 sq ft per panel
  • 48" x 12" panel (1' x 4'): Covers 4 sq ft per panel
  • 60" x 12" panel (1' x 5'): Covers 5 sq ft per panel

Quick Estimator Examples

  • 4' x 20' dock walkway = 80 sq ft
    Using 48" x 12" panels (4 sq ft each): 80 ÷ 4 = 20 panels (recommend ordering 22 panels with 10% extra)
  • 6' x 24' dock section = 144 sq ft
    Using 48" x 12" panels (4 sq ft each): 144 ÷ 4 = 36 panels (recommend ordering 38–40 panels)
  • 4' x 40' walkway = 160 sq ft
    Using 60" x 12" panels (5 sq ft each): 160 ÷ 5 = 32 panels (recommend ordering 34–36 panels)

Bundle Pack Planning

  • 10-Pack: Best for small repairs and partial resurfacing
  • 70-Pack: Ideal for many full dock resurfacing projects (also meets premium color minimum)
  • 140-Pack: Best for large docks, multi-slip systems, and marina projects

ADVANCED BUYER GUIDE: DOCK DECKING COMPARISON CHART

Most dock decking options look similar online, but they perform very differently over time. Use the chart below to compare ThruFlow vs wood dock boards vs aluminum dock decking for traction, maintenance, storm performance, and long-term value.

Feature ThruFlow Legacy XP (Open-Grid) Traditional Wood Dock Boards Aluminum Dock Decking (Extruded/Plank)
Maintenance Maintenance-free (no staining/sealing) High (regular sealing/staining; eventual replacement) Low to moderate (typically rinse/clean; inspect fasteners)
Slip Resistance (Wet) Excellent traction with engineered non-slip surface Varies; can be slippery with algae/mold Varies by profile; can be slick depending on finish
Splinters / Rot / Insects No splinters, no rot, no insects Yes (common over time) No rot; no splinters (may feel harder underfoot)
Heat in Direct Sun Comfortable underfoot Can get hot; varies by stain/color Often gets hot in direct sun
Storm / Uplift Performance Open-grid design helps reduce uplift from wind and storm surge Solid surface increases uplift forces Solid planks can increase uplift forces (varies by system)
Water Drainage No standing water; water drains through Can puddle or stay wet depending on board spacing Typically drains between planks; may still hold water on surface
Environmental Impact Below Dock 43% light penetration supports vegetation and habitat below Typically blocks most light Typically blocks most light
Best Use High-wind / high-wave areas, low-maintenance docks, marina walkways, replacements Budget builds; traditional look; willing to maintain Commercial/industrial feel; long life; may be hotter and louder underfoot

Tip: If you’re replacing wood dock boards and want a long-term solution with better traction and no annual maintenance, ThruFlow is often the best upgrade.
