Boat Dock Lighting Tips
Solar Dock lights are a great way enhance the safety of your boat dock during low light conditions. They will make your dock safer for you, visitors and passersby boaters. Dock lights help boaters avoid dock collisions and help with exiting and entry to the boat and the dock.
Most lights we offer above are operated by the use of a LED light powered by solar cells and a battery that the solar cells charge. We offer these lights for specific reasons and they are suitable for most residential and light commercial waterfront use. Solar lights turn on automatically and light levels diminish and require that they be placed in an area that receives several hours of direct sunlight. This is a feature that most will want to look for. Be cautious with lights that require timers or require the use of manual switches. Many of these style lights when placed in a marine environment typically have failure issues. Also note that the basic lawn and garden solar lights are not designed for use on the water. They typically provide little longevity, light output and usually have high failure rates.
It is also important to select a light that is constructed from durable materials. Most marine lights today use durable plastics, anodized aluminum, or power coated aluminum housings. These materials are suggested for most situations for they will provide years of use and durability.
When choosing light placement along your dock, consider two suggestions. Place the solar lights in a area that receives regular sunlight during the day. Solar lights require this in order to perform properly. Second one of the most critical areas to have lights installed is at the end of your dock or pier. This allows dock users and boaters alike to have a reference point with passing by or parking next to your dock.
